Another slow day at work and another chance to think about where I’m heading.
Growing up in a military family you hear a lot of saying that you wouldn’t use in normal life (unless you live in one of these corporate bonding retreats). A few of my favourites are:
“Don’t prepare, then prepare to fail”
“You can’t bullshit a bullshitter”, that’s one of my dads best sayings.
And my personal mantra recently, “if it is to be, it is up to me”.
That last one is I guess the theme behind today’s post, if anything is going to happen that I have to make it happen. The life I want isn’t going to fall from the sky in a streak of fire and land in my lap, I need to get myself out there and put in the hours.
To this end I have created a list of goals, I suppose you could call it a roadmap to my final destination. First stop on this journey… Looking the part.
Unfortunately in this modern age a large proportion of success you can gain is down to how you look. Strangers will make a decision about you within the first 15 seconds of seeing you and 90% of the cues they use to make this decision are non verbal. Now I’m not saying you need to look like a Greek god to get anywhere in life because thankfully other factors such as intelligence and personality also play a major role.
For me I wouldn’t say I need to make drastic changes to myself, more that I need to take more pride in how I look. The wonders a daily shave and regular hair cut can do are amazing and can completely change how you are perceived.
I stopped smoking 6 months ago so I no longer have to worry about that social stigma. The only thing left to change is my appalling diet, which mainly consists of supermarket sandwiches and frozen meals. When your sat behind a counter for up to 14 hours a day, 5 days a week there isn’t much else you can eat with only a microwave oven and a kettle at your disposal.
Anyway I think that’s enough of me today so I will leave you all with one question.
What could you do to be all you can be?
